In fact, sapphires are “allochromatic” meaning they come in every color of the rainbow (red ones are called Rubies)! Sapphire has been associated with romance and royalty for centuries; from the Ancient Romans to Princess Diana. Purple sapphires are rare and glorious. Whether they are lavender, grape or violet colored, this alluring gem is sure to be a conversation starter in any piece of jewelry. Purple gems often “color shift” or change colors slightly in different lighting.
