Rhodolite Garnet Pendant by Rebecca Overmann
Rebecca Overmann designed this pendant necklace featuring a richly colored 4.13 carat rhodolite garnet from Tanzania. This substantial gem was purchased as a rough 5 gram crystal, and was custom cut by Beth Stier. Jewelry designer Rebecca ingeniously set this geometric cut east-west in the setting so that it nestles into the hollow of the neck at the perfect point. The approximate 16″ chain has a fixed attachment to the top corners of the dimensional setting. As always, 10% of this purchase goes to primary and trade schools in gemstone communities in Tanzania and Kenya.
This rhodolite garnet was purchased directly in Tanzania. Rhodolite garnet refers to a combination of pyrope and almandine varieties, resulting in a rich hue that can range from light raspberry to very deep purplish merlot. Internal inclusions tend to be small and not easily visible to the unaided eye. Garnets typically are not treated or altered in any way, and ANZA Gems stays true to that philosophy.
Tanzania is incredibly abundant in gemstones in every description and from every region of the country. At ANZA Gems, we have traveled to a number of the gem-producing regions to personally visit mining sites and villages.
